Spring Select 2023

SPRING 2023 SELECT - AGES 8U TO 14U 

In Spring, all players must play on a recreational team. For girls who are looking for additional competitive play, select teams may be a fun way to get in extra games for your passionate player.

A Spring Select Team is a collaboration of TGS players from all recreation teams who are interested in playing at a more competitive level against other Select teams from leagues all over Orange County and surrounding counties. Select games are double headers played on Sundays.

**It is important to note, playing select means your child will play one weekday rec game, one Saturday rec game, and Sunday double header Select games.**

  • The extra costs associated with Select are:
    • $50 - $60 to cover the cost of a jersey and socks
    • $5 per player every  game-day for umpire costs
    • Potential tournament cost could be $50 per player
  • Players must try out for the team and be selected. Player interest does not guarantee selection. Players will be notified within three days of the try-out.
  • Select teams are not all-star teams. Playing Select does not guarantee a position on an all-star roster.
  • Select players may not play travel ball concurrently.

USA Softball employs strict rules surrounding Select play that govern eligibility for All-Star play. 

 "Yellow Book" rules:

  • The Spring Select team plays doubleheader “friendlies” on Sundays through April 2, 2023

  • Players who participate on a Select team, must also play on a recreational team and attend 75% of their recreation games or they will become ineligible for All-Stars. 

  • Teams are only allowed to meet for practices or games one time per week on Sundays. 

  • Players must play Select in the age division they intend to play All-Stars in.

  • A team shall not have more than four (4) players who played with a travel ball team after January 1, 2023. 

  • A player who plays on any team other than their TGS Rec team after March 31, 2023 is ineligible for All-Stars.

  • All players must be registered with TGS prior to April 1, 2023 to be eligible for all All-Stars.

Teams are selected by the Manager and approved by the Select Committee. The Select Committee is made up of the Executive Board, Division VPs, and the Select Coordinator.

January 22, 2023 - tentative practice

January 29, 2023 - friendly or practice

February 5, 2023 - friendly or practice

February 12, 2023 - Super Bowl Sunday; friendly or practice

February 19, 2023 - Gold teams will have a tournament; Silver teams will have a friendly

February 26, 2023 -  Gold teams will have a tournament; Silver teams will have a friendly

March 5, 2023 - friendly or practice

March 12, 2023 - friendly or practice

March 19, 2023 - friendly or practice

March 26, 2023 - No Select due to TGS Mid Season Tournament.

April 2, 2023 - Last Day of Select; friendly or practice
